Yeah it finally ended. Valentines Day was the nail in the coffin. I meant to watch it early in the day, but had to work. Then, I completely forgot to watch it and spent all night out with my lady and some friends. Unfortunate yes, but I am still pretty stoked on how far I made it. I'm guessing 44 days straight of Dazed and Confused is most likely the world record.

I feel like I will probably still watch the film pretty regularly even though the challenge is over. Thanks to everyone who read this while it was going!

Day 42 & 43

So watching the film is still good, blogging everyday is becoming more and more of a pain. Mostly because it is getting more difficult to know what to say hah. I knew this point would come and i am kinda surprised it took this long. So from now on I may blog each day or I might combine 2-3 days at a time. I will make it my goal to say something each day, but I won't beat myself up about it if I can't.

The last 2 days I watched the movie in the late afternoon around 4 ish. Still great, but definitely starting to transition into being a chore. Gonna watch it earlier today and see if that changes anything.

So the initial signs of fatigue are setting in but I remain strong in my viewings. I have sort of a stressful feeling for the first chunk of the movie now that doesn't really let up until the movie is halfway over. Not a huge deal, just thought i would mention it now so if it worsens i will know when it started.

Watched it all at once around 6pm. Starting to look at the movie much differently than before. It is getting difficult to actually immerse myself in the story, I just find myself analyzing things in the background. Like when the "old timer" comes up to Pink after Mitch's baseball game ends, he says "is this arm ready to throw about 2000 yards?". He grabs Pink's left arm and he is clearly right handed, you old bastard.

Watched like 15 min of the film this afternoon, then finished up the rest around 11pm. Not my ideal viewing but i got it in. up late but looking forward to tomorrow.

Day 38: SuperBowl!!

Today was the first real holiday that I have had to plan my viewing around. SuperBowl Sunday! On top of that my beloved Orlando Magic will be stomping the Celtics in Boston at 2:30 so i had to sneak the film in before all that. Just finished it and I am now off to buy some last minute things for the SuperBowl feast. Check you laterrrrrr.

Watched it in 2 parts again. It's still great watching the film but lately it is seeming more and more difficult to fit it in. Superbowl sunday is gonna be a pain too, But i'm gonna just watch it before i start my day.

I have been noticing lately the only time I feel inconvenienced by having to watch the film is when I put it off till later in the day. So in recent days I have been making an effort to watch it as early as possible. Today I watched it around noon and it was great. Going strong.

Day 24: Subtitled

Watched the movie today first thing after waking up. I have been meaning to watch it with subtitles on for a while now because there are a few parts where I couldn't exactly decipher what someone was saying. I figured out the things I couldn't make out before, but also saw some crazy shit I didn't even know I was missing.

Right at the beginning of the film, after Pink, Pickler, and Michelle have the first encounter with Slater they continue on to class and there is a shot of them walking in front of some lockers. I've seen this movie a couple times ok, and I never even realized Pickler was talking at that part, but according to the subtitles he is saying "Walkin' down the hall by myself. Smokin' a J with 50 elves". Haha WTF? it was so random that I figured it was probably some song lyrics or something, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any idea what he is talking about? or is it just some nod to stoner/geek subculture in the 70's?

Day 21: Getting Goofy

So yeah i'm 3 weeks into this thing and i'm still loving it. To be honest I kind of wish it was more difficult, but i'm sure that will change at some point.

So IMDB has a section where they list all the "goofs" in a movie. If you're not familiar, it's when something is messed up like the movie was set in the 70's but someone is driving an 80's car or someone's shirt changes, blah blah. Anyhow I found one today that isn't listed on there and they have dozens.

Near the end of the film when they leave the beer bust and have their "Joint Subcommittee Meeting" on the football field, Slater and Wooderson are sitting and talking. for like 1 second they cut over to Simone and Shavonne laughing and you can clearly see Slater asleep behind them, and they cut right back to him talking. Stupid goof, but a goof nonetheless.

Today was the first day that I almost fucking forgot to watch the movie! hah. MLK day is confusing as hell. Even with the confusion I watched the movie and guess what... It ruled!

Still cranking. Just finished up day 17 and it felt pretty good. I am realizing that sometimes when I am bummed on watching the film it is most likely not the movie, but outside BS making me bummed. Today ruled.

Day 16: Shrinkage

Day 16 went on as usual, but I am noticing a minor change. The movie really does seem to be getting shorter. Maybe it's because I am so aware of each scene and what is about to happen. I need to get that Criterion edition with the deleted scenes. Although that kinda scares me because I don't want to end up seeing some random deleted scene that changes how I feel about the film. Freaked.

On the DNC memorabilia front, eBay has a nice selection of horrible bootleg shit. This thing is only 18 bucks!!!

Day 14: Two Weeks Down!

Wow 2 whole weeks in and I am still feeling pretty awesome. I'm not going to lie, the last 2 days have kind of been annoying to fit a viewing in, BUT once I put it on everything feels awesome just as it should.

I don't really feel any odd effects from the repeated viewings yet, although I didn't really expect to at this point. My guess is things might start getting a little odd somewhere in the second month. who knows.

Ok so today was the first day yet where I actually had to think about when I could fit in watching the film. I am sure there will be plenty of days like today, but most days seem like they will be a breeze schedule wise. I don't know when it will start effecting me mentally or emotionally, but I'm sure it will be obvious if it happens.

On days when I watch the movie early I find myself wanting to watch it again later in the day. Weird.

Day 12: Eat More What?!

I noticed this graffiti that Pink walks by a couple times throughout the film. I have been doing my best to figure out the origin of the saying "eat more possum" with no luck so far. If anyone knows what this really means or where it came from please share.

So I wasn't aware of this until today, but apparently in the early 2000s model car company Ertl manufactured a line of Dazed and Confused diecast cars. I will definitely be picking up one of these models of Wooderson's "Melba Toast" for my collection.

Today I knocked out Day 11 half this morning and the rest just now. Still feels really good and I am noticing my memorization is getting a lot tighter. Rules.

I didn't realize until today that Renee Zellweger was in the movie. At the Moon Tower party she is the girl who holds the beer bong for Parker Posey. Weird.

Day 8: Extremely Minor Changes

So today I embark upon week 2 of 52 and although its not really much different than the past 4 or so days I am noticing very minor differences in how i see the film. I have little moments the opposite of déjà vu. I feel as though i haven't seen a part of the movie before. Only the visuals though, the audio never seems foreign. It is really random, but i definitely get these moments where I am not completely sure what I am watching. Kind of like when you watch a "director's cut" or "unrated" version of a movie with extra scenes by accident and you can't remember if you have seen it or not. like that, but not so bad.

Regardless I still love it as much as day 1 and kinda can't wait till i get to watch it again tomorrow.

I kind of wish I would have started this on the first day of my descent into madness, but up until now there really wasn't much to say. Watching a film a few days in a row really isn't that unusual. An entire week however, that is where the freak shit begins.

So far I don't dread having to watch the film, I look forward to it. Two days ago I actually caught myself watching it when i didn't even have to. I did not expect that compulsion. I would just go with it, but I feel that if I do I might just make it more difficult to complete the whole year.

D.N.C.Y. DOCU-BLOG!!!

The purpose of this blog is to document my attempt to watch one of my favorite films ever, once each day, for an entire year. No one thinks I can do it (including myself), but I am determined to make this shit happen.

The reason I am attempting this feat is like 50% homage and 50% social experiment. I want to see what watching this movie everyday does to me, as well as my perception of the film. Will I start to hate it? Or will I start to NEED it?! I really don't know, but I guess we will find out.

2009 was good, but 2010 is fixin' to be a lot better man!
